Greg Soros, Podcaster and Mentor, Builds Equity in Audio Media

When Greg Soros founded Podcraft Media Lab in Austin, Texas, he faced a choice that would define everything that followed. He could have chased the most lucrative corporate contracts and built a boutique firm serving Fortune 500 brands. Instead, the producer and podcaster carved out a different mission: using his platform to mentor creators from underrepresented communities through the Podcast Academy’s diversity fellowship program.

A Mentorship Model With Results

The results have been hard to dismiss. Several of Greg Soros‘s mentees have secured major distribution deals, and three shows he helped guide achieved six-figure download numbers within their first year of release. That kind of traction is not accidental. Soros brings a background from Berklee College of Music and experience at major podcasting studios, and he translates that knowledge into a curriculum that covers far more than microphone placement.

“Most mentorship programs focus on creative development, which is important but incomplete,” Soros explains. “We also teach the business fundamentals how to pitch to advertisers, negotiate distribution agreements, and build sustainable revenue models. That’s what transforms a hobby into a career.”

Greg Soros, podcaster and educator, has drawn praise from former mentees who describe a philosophy grounded in practical outcomes. Maria Rodriguez, whose investigative series “Border Stories” won a podcasting award after going through the program, credits Soros with sharing not just technique but business acumen. The combination, she says, is what turned her passion project into a working media venture.

The influence extends beyond individual shows. Several competing networks have since launched mentorship programs of their own, a development Soros views as a signal that the industry is beginning to take creator equity seriously. His long-stated belief that great audio content emerges from diverse perspectives is gaining traction well beyond his Austin studio. Read this article for more information.
